Study Abroad Program Overview
"GC Study Abroad" is mandatory for all participants in principle.
As a general rule, all students participate in the "GC Study Abroad" program (a one-semester study abroad program). The timing is as follows: Spring semester of the second year (English track), Fall semester of the second year (Chinese track), and third year (Trilingual track - Korean). For the Japanese track, domestic study abroad at a university in Japan is possible only for those who wish to do so. The purpose of the GC Study Abroad program is to further enhance language acquisition after enrollment, as well as to deepen intercultural understanding by experiencing different cultures and values. It is an important part of the curriculum that bridges the gap between language studies and specialized subjects.
- Since overseas study is included as part of the regular curriculum, credits earned abroad will be recognized towards graduation requirements, with a maximum of 16 to 20 credits depending on the number of class hours spent at the host institution.
- Study abroad programs in English-speaking countries often include learning through volunteer activities within the local community as part of the curriculum. (However, this may not be possible in some countries or destinations.)
- Studying abroad in China and South Korea provides opportunities to interact with and learn alongside local university students.
- If you choose the Trilingual Track (Korean), you will study abroad during the summer break of your first year (short term) and during the first semester of your third year (mid-term term).
*To study abroad, you must meet the requirements set by your academic group, such as academic performance.
*For the Japanese language track, you can choose from Sapporo International University in Hokkaido, Meio University in Okinawa Prefecture, Okinawa International University, or Okinawa Christian University.
A variety of study abroad programs to meet diverse needs
In addition to GC study abroad, to meet the diverse needs of students, J. F. Oberlin University long-term exchange programs and participation in College of Global Communication 's own short-term study programs are also available.
In particular, short-term study abroad is recognized as credits required for graduation if you study abroad during a long vacation and complete the course. It is also possible to participate in combination with GC study abroad. In the trilingual track's Korean language course, in principle, all students participate in a short-term language training in Korea during the summer vacation of their first year.

2) The above costs generally include, in principle, accommodation costs (dormitory/homestay) at the study destination, meals (which vary depending on the destination), and insurance purchased locally (which varies depending on the destination).
3) Tuition during your study abroad will be covered by tuition fees paid to J. F. Oberlin University, so you must pay tuition to J. F. Oberlin University while studying abroad.
