Seizan High School and our university have signed a collaborative agreement — Towards deepening the connection between high school and university through inquiry-based learning.

The two schools have already deepened their collaboration, primarily through our university's high school-university connection and inquiry-based learning support program, "Discover!". In 2025, we will be sending lecturers to Seizan High School for outreach classes and to their learning presentations. With this agreement, starting in 2026, we plan to further deepen our collaboration by providing "support for inquiry-based learning" in which university student mentors from our university will support students in Seizan High School's advanced course online for approximately six months, as well as "introduction of an academic perspective" which will create opportunities for high school students to engage with more specialized learning (academics) through outreach classes by our faculty and use of university facilities.

 

Yoshito Seki, principal of Seizan High School, said, "At our school, our motto is 'Awaken your individuality and make the most of your strengths,' and we are focusing on creating an environment where students can challenge themselves with new things. We want to make the entire school even more attractive through inquiry-based learning activities, and we believe that interaction with university student mentors will greatly stimulate students' motivation to learn. We are very much looking forward to this collaboration, as it will allow first-year students to learn the basics of inquiry and develop the habit of delving deeply into problems."

 

Vice President Kiyoshi Hori of our university also stated, "Our school motto, 'Gakue Er Shi Jin' (Applying what we have learned to the benefit of people and society)," truly embodies the spirit of inquiry-based learning. We have supported your school's inquiry-based learning through 'Discover!' but going forward, by fostering more organized collaboration, we will provide multifaceted support so that each student can develop the ability to carve out their own careers. he said.

With this agreement, it has been decided that in July, a "Discover!" class for first-year students at Seizan High School will be held. J. F. Oberlin University will continue to provide an educational environment that responds to the curiosity of the next generation of students under a strong partnership with Seizan High School.
