J. F. Oberlin University held the "J. F. Oberlin University Sports Festa 2026" on Saturday, October 31, at the Machida Campus Sakura Ground. Children from age 4 to elementary school participated and, together with students belonging to special strengthening clubs, experienced eight events. This was the first time in three years that the event was held together.
The Sports Festa aims to help children discover the joy of sports and inspire them to develop new interests and challenges by giving them the opportunity to experience sports they don't usually get to try. Students took the lead in planning and running the event on the day, dividing up tasks such as reception, guidance, venue setup, and the closing ceremony. The university festival, "Sakura-sai," also opened on the same day, and the campus was bustling with many visitors from the morning.

Registration began at 9:00 AM. Many families came to the venue, and students guided each person through the day's schedule. The opening ceremony and warm-up exercises took place at 9:30 AM, and the various sports experience programs started at 9:45 AM. The children were divided into eight blocks within the Sakura Ground, and students from the clubs in charge of each sport taught them the basic movements and techniques.

Archery Club: "Aim for the target! Aim for the bullseye!"
・Track and field club: "Let's run faster! 50m challenge!"
• Baseball Club: "Let's all have fun playing baseball 5!"
• Soccer club: "Aim and kick!"
・Volleyball Club: "Let's discover the fun of volleyball!"
American Football Club: "Aim for a touchdown!"
Cheerleading Club: "From today, everyone is a cheerleader!"
• Songleading Club: "Let's dance! Let's throw the balls in with cheerleading dance!"

In the songleading segment, participants moved their bodies to the music before trying "ball-throwing cheer dance," where they threw balls into a net. In the cheerleading segment, students demonstrated lifts, raising the children in the air and raising their pom-poms, drawing cheers from the audience.
In the archery club's session, students practiced shooting arrows from close range, with targets drawn on cardboard placed in front of them, while the club members supported their body positioning and bow-drawing technique. In the baseball club's session, participants experienced activities such as a strikeout game using nine square panels and Baseball 5. In both sessions, each time a target was hit, cheers erupted from family members and students, and active communication took place, with students offering encouragement such as, "Aim for the center!"
At the American football booth, students helped children put helmets on and taught them step-by-step how to hold and throw the ball.
At other booths, students encouraged children who were hesitant about trying a sport for the first time, saying, "Let's try again," creating opportunities for them to try again and again. In soccer, there were challenges to shoot towards the goal; in volleyball, there were challenges to hit the ball back over the net; and in ekiden (long-distance relay race), there were various challenges to run faster, and each had a long line of people waiting.
This is the first in-person Sports Festa in three years since 2023. In 2024, the event was canceled due to bad weather, and in 2025, it was canceled due to rain on the day, so students were unable to attend the event for the second consecutive year. This year, blessed with clear weather, the students cooperated and prepared together, believing the children would enjoy themselves.

Umi Ogata, chairperson of the Sports Festa 2026 Executive Committee (Song Reading Club), successfully concluded this Sports Festa and shared the following words.
"The Sports Festa was canceled for two consecutive years, and since it was the first event in three years, I am very happy that it was held safely. During the preparation period, we worked together with team members to ensure the children could enjoy themselves. On the day of the event, I was impressed to see the children happily participating in various sports. Also, I was very happy that not only us students reached out to us, but also the children themselves, and through interacting with the children, we were able to feel the warmth of the Sports Festa. Drawing on this experience, we want to create a Sports Festa next year where many children can experience the joy of sports."

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended, as well as to all the companies and organizations that sponsored and cooperated with this Events.
