Disaster relief volunteer work in the Noto Peninsula (Activities in fiscal year 2025)

Since the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, our university has planned student disaster volunteer programs centered on Service-Learning Center and Christianity Education Center, with many students and faculty continuously engaged in recovery support activities. In the 2024 "Noto Peninsula Earthquake" and "Noto Peninsula Heavy Rain Disaster," we continued to implement disaster volunteer programs in the J. F. Oberlin University Noto Peninsula as a university-wide initiative in fiscal year 2025.
In the 2025 academic year, this volunteer program was held a total of six times, with 49 students and faculty members participating, transcending the boundaries of academic faculties and year levels.
In this activity, students continued to engage in disaster relief volunteer work in various fields, supporting the disaster-stricken areas and victims in Oku-Noto, which are still facing difficult circumstances, as well as putting into practice our university's motto, "Learning to serve people."
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone at Hokuriku Gakuin University for their cooperation in coordinating our activities, to everyone at the Uchinada Church of the United Church of Christ in Japan for providing accommodation, to everyone at Kobe University, Tohoku Gakuin University, Ishikawa College of Nursing and the local volunteer group for their collaborative work on-site, and to everyone involved in this program.
J. F. Oberlin University plans to continue collaborating with local partner organizations to provide ongoing support to the Noto Peninsula.

(Kanazawa City) Cleaning up houses flooded above floor level due to the heavy rains in August / Photo cleaning activity
(Monzen-machi) Interaction at temporary housing / Farm restoration work / Laying down straw to prevent freezing / Beach cleanup activities
(Anamizu Town) Restoration work on tourist resources such as abandoned train stations.
(Nonoe, Suzu City) Foot bath massage and tea party held at the community center.
