We will hold a series of workshops titled "Let's Bring Small Autonomous Learning Support — Everyone Thinks, Tries Together, and Grows," mainly for Japanese teachers teaching at Japanese schools, organized by the J. F. Oberlin University Graduate School and co-hosted by Kai Japanese School.

Supporting autonomous learning requires not only special support systems and large-scale initiatives, but also small adjustments to regular lessons and school activities that encourage learners to "think, notice, choose, decide, and reflect."

In this workshop, participants will bring their practical examples, ideas, and problems, and through two workshop sessions and three months of on-the-job training, we will cultivate the "seeds of practical application." You don't need to bring completed practical examples. Anything is welcome, such as "what you are currently doing," "what you would like to try," or "what is not working." We encourage you to participate.

Workshop content:
• First session: Creating "seeds of practice": Reflect on your own learning experiences and everyday practices, and bring together examples, ideas, attempts, and challenges. Expand your ideas by exchanging opinions in groups, and get hints from other groups to decide on "seeds of practice"—techniques you want to try.
・ Three months of practical application: We will try out the "seeds of practical application" decided in the first session in our respective work environments.
・ Session 2: Reflecting on and nurturing the "seeds of practice": We will reflect on the "seeds of practice" that we tried over the past two months, sharing "what happened." We will re-examine our experiences to find hints for improvement, and, taking into account the experiences and insights of other participants, decide on and take home our own "next seed of practice." The workshop will mainly consist of group work in groups of 3-4 people. The same members are expected to work together in the group work for both Session 1 and Session 2.

For example, we'll discuss these "small improvements":
• During class: Monitor your own Japanese during conversation practice / Find and imitate the good points of your partner / Narrow down the points to listen for yourself / Reflect on how you arrive at the answer and understand your own habits
Beyond the classroom: Choose learning resources that fit your current needs / Analyze your learning patterns from your study records / Try out several learning strategies / Find a learning environment where you can concentrate.

This is recommended for people like this:
・Those who want to find "small improvements" that can be incorporated into regular lessons
・Those who want to reflect on their own practices once again
・Those who want to think about support that can be provided within a fixed textbook and curriculum, and those who want to get hints from the practical examples and ideas of other Japanese language teachers.
・People who want to talk about things they want to try or problems they are having that aren't going well.
