Welcome to Obirin! Events for International Students Held
Main content
On Friday, March 27th, an orientation was held at the Machida Campus for regular international students enrolling in the spring semester.
On the day of the event, staff from the International Affairs Department, who are responsible for supporting international students, provided information on the support system and various procedures. Approximately 150 new students participated, deepening their understanding of a wide range of topics necessary for university life, including residence status, the GPA system, and information on living in Japan and job hunting.
After the orientation, a get-together was held with about 20 senior students. Through meals and games, students from the same academic group and from the same region deepened their connections, and even the freshmen, who were initially nervous, gradually began to smile. It was an opportunity to deepen friendships in a friendly atmosphere.
Additionally, on Friday, April 10, a "Welcome Party" was held at Sakura Cafe I on our university's Machida Campus to deepen exchanges between exchange students (RJs) entering the spring semester and Japanese students, with a total of 93 students participating. This Events was planned by students from our university's student organization, Global Supporters, and the venue became a lively space.
The diverse program proceeded in a friendly atmosphere.
The welcome party, which started at 3 p.m., began with icebreakers such as "linked self-introductions," "human bingo," and a "Yes or No quiz," and was designed to allow participants to communicate naturally even if they were meeting for the first time.
Cultural exchange through traditional Japanese games
Also, in the latter half of Events, after commemorative photos, a session was held to experience "Japanese games." Origami, menko (rice balls), kendama, and spinning tops were prepared at the venue, allowing international students to enjoy traditional Japanese games while having a lively time together with Japanese students. It was a valuable and fulfilling opportunity to build new friendships across borders.
