Mr. Ryotaro Saito

During my time as a graduate student, I participated in my first international conference.

Could you tell me about your area of expertise and what makes it so appealing?

My specialization is in education, and within that, my research focuses primarily on special needs education, which involves children with disabilities and other children with special educational needs.

The term "developmental disability" is no longer uncommon these days, but regardless of whether or not a child has a disability, there are always a certain number of children in any setting who need support.

We are researching what measures can be taken to make it easier for these children to receive an education, and what methods can be used to facilitate collaboration with related institutions, which is strongly required in special needs education.

Please tell me how you spend your holidays and what your hobbies are.

I enjoy exploring towns and often look up places I've never been to on a map and go for a walk there. Lately, I've also been hooked on escape games and puzzle-solving.

Please provide a message for students and prospective students.

University is a place where you can greatly nurture your values. As expressed by the word 'diversity,' society has people with a wide variety of ideas, and you need to adapt to that diversity. College of Arts and Sciences offers a wide variety of programs for both humanities and sciences. I hope you will grow into someone with a broad perspective through your university life.

He is from Kanagawa Prefecture. He graduated from the Faculty of Education at Tokyo Gakugei University.
Completed the Special Needs Education program at the Graduate School of Education, Tokyo Gakugei University (Master's in Education)
Completed the Developmental Support Course, Graduate School of Education, Tokyo Gakugei University (Ph.D. in Education)
After serving as assistant professor, lecturer, and associate professor in the Department of Child Education, Faculty of Letters, Ibaraki Christian University, joined J. F. Oberlin University College of Arts and Sciences in April 2026.
