Mr. Naoko Sawada

A park I visited as a volunteer (Philippines)

Could you tell me about your area of expertise and what makes it so appealing?

Originally, I was interested in researching the metabolism of oxidized lipoproteins, which cause arteriosclerosis, and in unraveling the mechanisms of disease at the molecular level. The turning point came when I visited a foreign country as a volunteer and saw children living in garbage dumps. Realizing that environmental problems are directly linked to human health, I am now broadening my research to examine the relationship between environmental pollution and disease from a macro perspective.
Watching baseball in America

Please tell me how you spend your holidays and what your hobbies are.

Lately, I've been spending my days off relaxing at home, reading and doing other quiet activities. When I have free time, I like to refresh myself by watching baseball games or going to concerts of my favorite artists.
At Yokohama Stadium

Please provide a message for students and prospective students.

College of Arts and Sciences is attractive because you can learn broadly as you pursue your interests. However, I believe it's important not to end each learning at just one point, but to consider which fields can be combined to lead to new discoveries and future possibilities.
