Program Overview
The Religious Studies Program is a program where you can deeply study Christianity, which J. F. Oberlin University upholds as the founding spirit, as well as various religions and cultures around the world from various perspectives. "Religious studies" is the study of organizing and systematically organizing and organizing the activities of "religion" seen worldwide based on facts.

Practical Religious Studies
"Practical Religious Studies" is an experiential course that requires prior knowledge of "Religions in Japan and the World." Building upon the classroom lessons on various religions, students will visit religious facilities (shrines, temples, churches, mosques, etc.) with their instructors for training. By observing religious ceremonies and worship services, and experiencing activities such as sutra copying and Zen meditation, students will gain an understanding of the realities of major religious beliefs practiced in Japan. Furthermore, by conducting interviews and interacting with clergy and believers, students will deepen their understanding and awareness of various religions.
Reading the Old Testament
The Old Testament is the canonical text of Judaism, the foundation of Christianity. Its contents begin with the creation of the world, record the history of the ancient Israelites and the testimonies of many people who lived with God, and conclude with a prophecy of the coming of the Messiah. The central message of Christianity, which believes in Jesus as the Messiah, is itself based on the Old Testament. Studying the Bible, the world's best-selling monotheistic scripture, is an opportunity to connect with the excellent source of human spiritual history.

I chose the Religious Studies program as my major because I wanted to explore religion from a more multifaceted perspective. While religion has recently been viewed with some skepticism by many Japanese people due to various issues, I believe there are reasons why the religions passed down by our ancestors have continued to thrive to this day. I want to study, through Religious Studies, why religion has such a profound influence worldwide.
I'm not sure if it will directly benefit your future, but I recommend studying religious studies because I think it will give you a different perspective on things.

The world of religious studies is more approachable than I thought.

I became interested in religious studies through the required course, Introduction to Christianity. I like anime, and I was drawn to it because many of the character names and accessories are related to religion. I also chose religious studies as my major because one of my favorite historical figures was a Christian. I haven't decided on my future yet, but I think studying religious studies is worthwhile because it's connected to many different fields. I used to think that religious studies and the Bible were difficult to approach and too sacred, but they're surprisingly interesting, with a lot of human drama and intrigue, like a daytime soap opera.
