From early morning to morning on Sunday, September 13, 2026, the 'Sakai River Cleanup Operation' was carried out.
The 'Sakai River Cleanup Operation' is a volunteer activity where nine venues along the Sakai River basin, from Hashimoto to Kamitsuruma, collect trash simultaneously. From J. F. Oberlin University, many O.A.C.U. (J. F. Oberlin University Sports and Culture Organizations Federation), Fujikura Seminar (Environmental Studies) from College of Arts and Sciences, the Sakura Festival Executive Committee, and others, totaling about 470 people, participated across seven venues.
Although the weather had been unfortunate lately, the rain stopped on the day, making it a comfortable day without being too hot. No injuries occurred, and the activities were completed safely.
Due to the continuous rain causing the river to rise slightly, there were restrictions on cleaning inside the river for safety reasons, but the students actively sweated within a safe area. They were able to collect a large amount of trash, from large items like tires and iron racks to household waste such as PET bottles.
Students who participated said, "The river we usually use is cleaner and feels great!" and local residents also expressed their warm support, saying, "I think we got a lot of luck today, so students, please do your best in your activities." It was a very fruitful day as we worked together with the local community to create a familiar environment. Thank you to everyone who participated!
