In April this year, a newly established open-style classroom with the latest facilities, the "Creative Lab," was established at the Shinjuku Campus. To make effective use of this classroom, following the July session, the second session of the citizen lecture "J. F. Oberlin University Shinjuku Campus Weekend Salon" was held on Sunday, October 18.

This time, we set the theme as "Japan's Multicultural Society as Seen Through Authentic Chinese Cuisine" and invited Masato Nakamura, representative of the Tokyo Deep China Research Association (TDC) and author of "Authentic Chinese Immigrants: The Mystery of the Proliferation of 'Authentic Chinese Cuisine' in Japan," to give a lecture.

In the first half, participants shared reports on their recent trips to Europe (Spain, France, etc.) and Thailand (places associated with Bruce Lee), as well as information about their local experiences.
In the second half, Masato Nakamura gave a lecture titled "Japan's Multicultural Society as Seen Through Authentic Chinese Cuisine: Enjoying the Era of Local Dishes Arriving from Various Regions of the Chinese-Speaking World."
The discussion covered a wide range of topics, from what "authentic Chinese food," which is becoming increasingly popular in Japan, is, to trends in authentic Chinese restaurants and the reasons behind the recent increase in such establishments, as well as the social and cultural background, such as how Japan's immigration policy is influencing this trend.
There was also a lively question-and-answer session.

For the after-party, we enjoyed authentic Chinese cuisine at "Chokei Gyoza" in Shin-Okubo, in keeping with the theme of the lecture.

We plan to continue holding Events that citizens can participate in on irregular periods.
The next event is scheduled for February.
