The Machida Police Station of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department held a special crime prevention seminar, with over 300 students and instructors participating.

This seminar was held with the aim of deepening students' understanding of crimes they may be at risk of becoming involved in, such as drug abuse and illegal part-time jobs using social media, and to raise their awareness of crime prevention.

 

At the beginning of the event, Tomohito Ishikawa, head of the Student Affairs Division, gave an opening address, explaining the current situation: "Our university is characterized by being an open university with no gates or walls. On the other hand, we recently had an incident where a suspicious person entered the gymnasium. Ensuring the safety of students and faculty members is a challenge." He then appealed to the students, saying, "I want you all to raise your awareness of crime prevention, learn the correct knowledge, and take it as your own responsibility to protect yourselves."

In addition, Inspector Numata of the Community Safety Division gave a lecture on the dangers of "illegal part-time jobs" using social media. Using a reenactment video based on actual cases, he explained how young people are lured into crime with phrases like "high pay" and "easy work," and emphasized the importance of not applying too readily.

Furthermore, Inspector Fujimoto, head of the Criminal Investigation Section, and Sergeant Nakajima conducted a training session on the use of a sasumata (a type of pole weapon), providing practical explanations on its actual use and how to deal with suspicious individuals. Participating students commented, "I was able to learn specifically how to act in the event of an emergency," and "I realized the importance of having a sense of danger at all times."

A question-and-answer session was held after the lecture, during which students actively asked questions about daily precautions to take to prevent becoming a victim of crime and about the work of police officers.

 

This seminar provided the participating students with a valuable opportunity to learn about preventing crime and trouble, and to raise their awareness of protecting their own safety.
