Actor. Born in Tokyo in 1932. While a member of the Gekidan Haiyuza theater company, he entered the film industry and appeared in representative works of Japanese film history such as "The Human Condition," "Harakiri," "Yojimbo," "Kagemusha," and "Ran." He was active in the works of renowned directors such as Akira Kurosawa, Masaki Kobayashi, and Kihachi Okamoto, and received high praise both in Japan and abroad. In 1975, he founded the actor training school "Mumeijuku." He trained many actors and made a great contribution to the development of Japanese film and theater culture. His last work was the Noto Reconstruction Performance "Mother Courage and Her Children." He passed away in 2025.

Born in Kanagawa Prefecture. At the age of 19, she joined the Mumeijuku acting school. She made her stage debut in "Cyrano de Bergerac." For three years as a student, she lived in the library of Tatsuya Nakadai, which was located above the rehearsal room. She remained with the school for 10 years before leaving. Her relationship with Tatsuya Nakadai continued until the end. In 2012, she made her film debut in "Waga Haha no Ki" (My Mother's Chronicle), playing the wife of the protagonist played by Koji Yakusho.
Her major acting credits include numerous dramas such as "Crossroad," "Good and Bad," "Unmet," "Wings to the Tiger," and "Diamond Sleeping in the Sea," and films such as "My Mother's Chronicle," "Hell Dogs," "Wandering Moon," "Sidestep," "Numbness," "First Voice," and "Children I Don't Know." In "Age Verification," a work by the creative group Koneko Film, she comically portrays a woman of a certain age who is asked to verify her age in a convenience store, captivating many fans, and the series has garnered over 200 million total views.
