After three years, Peking Opera OPAL vol.30 'Journey to the West' will be performed from November 18 (Wed) ~ November 21 (Sat) at Obirin Arts & Culture Hall Stones Hall (J. F. Oberlin University inside Tokyo Hinatayama Campus).
As one of the representative traditional performing arts of Oriental theater, the Chinese national opera 'Peking Opera,' registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, is a comprehensive art form encompassing a variety of artistic forms and content such as singing, music, dance, standing performances, and drama. It represents traditional moral and ethical values and condenses Chinese culture.
We present Japan's only authentic Peking opera performance by university students, accompanied by live performances by professional musicians.
Directing and acting guidance will be provided by our university professor, Mr. Yingming Yuan, a national first-class actor in China, and Ma Zhenghong, a part-time lecturer and lead actor in Peking Opera.
J. F. Oberlin University Performing Arts Lessons (commonly known as OPAL) is the name of a performance produced mainly by J. F. Oberlin University College of Performing and Visual Arts Theater and Dance Major, where professional directors and choreographers collaborate with students to create and stage the performances. We aim not just for a simple live recital of theater and dance Major, but for a high-level performance that can be enjoyed by the general public.
