Entertainment Management

Try managing your emotions, for example.

This is a field specializing in entertainment business management, something previously unavailable at Japanese graduate schools. Japanese culture, represented by animation, has recently gained recognition overseas as well. In Japan, these are designated as growth industries and are aiming to export various types of content. On the other hand, while there are many people who "create" content such as movies and music, not limited to animation, the number of people who "manage" and promote it as a business has not yet been sufficiently developed.

In this field, you will learn a wide range of topics from the basics of entertainment business and management to hospitality and tourism, and then master management methods for content, Events, and projects. Furthermore, in partnership with the University of Central Florida in the United States, known for its entertainment management education, summer sessions featuring experienced faculty offer opportunities to learn about the global entertainment business. We also establish an 'Entertainment Project' to solve challenges given by companies, allowing students to learn about the entertainment field from both theoretical and practical perspectives.

Through these efforts, we cultivate globally capable individuals in roles such as film, video, and music producers, Events planning and sales promotion, talent management, and theme park planning and development.

In every field of business, the element of entertainment that "entertains people" has become indispensable. Students who study in this field can apply the knowledge they have gained in hotels, tourism, and even general companies.

Business creation field

Business that accelerates the future

When comparing Japan with other countries, the low rate of new business creation in Japan is often pointed out. In this context, this business creation field implements entrepreneurship education. It aims to cultivate individuals who aspire to start their own businesses or launch new businesses within companies by teaching the unique knowledge and know-how required when creating new businesses or creating startups. It also focuses on developing individuals who can plan and propose new businesses within companies. The curriculum includes lectures such as "Entrepreneurship Theory," "Business Plan Formulation," "Business Restructuring Theory," and "Digital Business Creation Theory." A major feature is that the instructors are prominent practitioners from a wide range of fields, such as former managers of famous community sites and key figures in corporate restructuring support, allowing participants to learn diverse and practical know-how.

To prepare students for launching new businesses based on their graduate studies, we have established an "Incubation Center" (with an application screening process) on campus. This center provides access to a network of faculty members and alumni, creating an ideal environment for students seriously considering entrepreneurship. The knowledge gained in this field is essential not only for aspiring entrepreneurs but also for those attempting to launch new businesses within existing companies. In recent years, the importance of open innovation between established companies (such as large corporations) and venture companies has been emphasized in Japan to strengthen industrial competitiveness. However, regardless of company size, open innovation cannot be promoted without personnel possessing this knowledge within established companies. This field is also ideal for working professionals in new business development departments within companies.

Asian Business Sector

Seductive Asia

Asian countries are experiencing remarkable economic development. Its remarkable growth rate has reached the point where it has a major impact on the global economy.
In this field, we focus on the businesses of China, which has grown into an economic powerhouse, and the rapidly growing Asian countries, and we will learn about those businesses. A major feature is that classes are offered in Chinese to make it easy for international students from China and Chinese business professionals active in Japan to learn. Courses such as "Asian Corporate Studies," "Japanese Management Studies," "Corporate Governance in Asia," "Introduction to Japan-China Business," and "Innovation in Asia" are offered in both Japanese and Chinese. Additionally, by opening a Confucius Institute in 2006, we plan to leverage the deep ties between J. F. Oberlin University and China to invite prominent figures from China's business community for summer sessions, as well as short-term lectures and training programs. By actively engaging in practical research such as case studies, not only in theory but also in the future, we aim to cultivate highly skilled professionals who will be required in future Asian business.

This field is ideal not only for international students and business professionals from Asia, including China, but also for Japanese students who wish to expand their business in Asia. We cultivate talent who will lead the business in Asia with great potential.
