In 2020, I celebrated my 40th anniversary during the COVID-19 pandemic. With many of my jobs cancelled and a lot of free time on my hands, I had a vague feeling that "things can't go on like this," and I started thinking about how to spend the next 10 years, including "re-educating" myself at graduate school.
J. F. Oberlin University Relearning in the graduate school's entertainment management course was a strong interest because I felt it would be an opportunity to think about how to make singer Yoshimi Iwasaki shine on the 50th anniversary in ten years. At the same time, studying business administration was an opportunity to learn about concept creation and marketing management on the creator side, which were not often considered by performers, and I found that aspect very appealing.
Although I had decided to enroll, the time before I had to submit my application was limited, so I ended up involving my friends, sisters, and even my niece, and we were all in a frenzy as I created my first research plan. My studies were only made possible thanks to the warm cooperation of many people. I am truly grateful.
Even after enrollment, the 'tentekomai' (treacherous situation) continued, but thanks to the faculty in charge, the many professors who guided me, and warm research colleagues, I was able to successfully obtain my master's degree. During the process of advancing my research and writing my thesis, I felt the joy of getting to the heart of things through trial and error. Upon completing my master's program, I felt very disappointed that I ended up with the joy of thinking and researching. As an extension of my master's thesis research, I gained even deeper ideas for themes, and I feel that this new theme is an encounter with something essential for my future self. I am deeply grateful to J. F. Oberlin University Graduate School for providing such a learning environment.
