Inspired by my seniors, I started playing lacrosse in college.
I grew up in a family that was passionate about sports, and I dedicated myself to sports like tennis and volleyball until I entered university. I love being active, and I spent my childhood immersed in sports.
I chose J. F. Oberlin University because I was drawn to College of Performing and Visual Arts 's curriculum. In my first year, I was attracted by the fact that I could choose classes in various fields such as art, crafts, textiles, and visual media. Since I can study a wide range of fields, it's the perfect environment for me who wants to deepen my studies rather than focusing on a specific one. I also felt that being able to aim for a national curator qualification while enrolled was a plus.
I wanted to continue playing sports in college, but I was unsure which sport to choose. That's when I attended the orientation before starting university, where the women's lacrosse team was introduced. The upperclassmen were very cheerful and enthusiastically encouraged me to try lacrosse during the trial practice session. I thought, "Starting a new sport in college sounds good," and decided to give lacrosse a try.
Use your speed to create as many scoring opportunities as possible.
In 2024, we had fewer members, so I played in matches right after joining the team. It was tough running around the vast court as it was a sport I had no prior experience with, but the feeling that "lacrosse is fun!" outweighed that. For me, the best part of lacrosse is the feeling of fighting together with my teammates, while valuing communication and teamwork. In the latter half of last year, I became more accustomed to the sport and was able to carry the ball into the opponent's territory and contribute by creating scoring opportunities. We were also able to win the relegation match to stay in the third division, and it was a year in which I was able to fully experience a sense of accomplishment.
I've been assigned to the midfield position for the 2025 season. It's a position where I have to contribute not only defensively but also offensively. I want to make the most of my speed, which is one of my strengths, and work hard to be a "ball carrier," leaving opponents behind, carrying the ball close to the goal, and creating more scoring opportunities than ever before.
I aim to be a player who can lead the team.
This year, we will be competing in the 4th division league as a combined team in the fall season. We are practicing every day with our teammates from the four schools we will be playing with, aiming to achieve an undefeated championship. While it is frustrating not to be able to compete as a standalone team, joint practices with other universities are also a valuable opportunity. We are able to practice in match-like formats that we cannot do with our own team, as well as practice defensive drills around the goal, making it a very fulfilling experience.
J. F. Oberlin University focuses on basic training, including the development of first-year students. At the same time, I feel expectations for the main players to act as key players, such as working with seniors to think about training menus and effective ways to share information.
This year, I want to make solid contributions to the team by leveraging last year's experience. What I couldn't do last year, I am gradually able to do now. I want to approach daily practice to become a player who can lead the J. F. Oberlin University and the joint team. I would be happy if you could support me!
