2027 J. F. Oberlin University Publishing Association 'Publishing Grant' Application Guidelines

As part of maintaining and enhancing the university's academic status, enhancing publishing activities by education and researchers related to the school, and promoting intellectual property, the aim is to publish high-quality academic books through the "J. F. Oberlin University Publishing Association."

The works in question will be published as a 'J. F. Oberlin University series.' In principle, the school will subsidize publication-related expenses, but depending on the content or specifications of the work, some of the costs may be borne by the author. The entire series of practical publication tasks will be handled by publishers commissioned by the academy.

• Please submit a completed manuscript in either B6 or A5 size (paperback or hardcover), approximately 300 pages, and around 200,000 characters (single-color printing). Since the grant amount is limited, we appreciate your cooperation in ensuring the manuscript meets the above specifications.
• Published books are assigned an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) and a list price, and are distributed as general books. The print run and list price vary depending on the field of specialization and theme, but are determined by the publishing association in consultation with the commissioned publisher (the initial print run is expected to be 500 to 1000 copies).
• Based on distribution through bookstores, we will introduce and promote the book to university libraries, public libraries, the National Diet Library, and other institutions.
• Please note that since this publication is funded by the school, the author will not receive any royalties. Copyright (property rights) belongs to the school in preparation for future revisions and republications. Moral rights (right of attribution, etc.) are reserved for the author, and we will flexibly discuss the use of the work in other media. As a general rule, translated works are not eligible.

The publishing association handles all publishing tasks, from manuscript editing (proofreading) and publication to bookstore distribution and advertising (brochure advertising), in cooperation with the commissioned publisher.

[Manuscript Preparation Guidelines]

• A4 version
• The font size should be 10.5 points, with 40 characters per line and 30 lines per page (1200 characters), regardless of whether the text is written horizontally or vertically. Approximately 167 pages (200,000 characters) should be used, with 30mm margins on all sides.
• Images and illustrations should be embedded within the text (you may be required to submit the original data separately).
• Please combine them into a single PDF file and send it to publi@obirin.ac.jp.
• If the file size is too large to attach to an email, please use a free large-capacity data transfer service at your own risk.

A "review committee" composed of several experts from both within and outside the university will select the works. Priority may be given to those whose works have not been selected before.

We will notify you around early April 2027.

In addition to explaining the publication process, we will also discuss editorial matters and confirm copyright issues.

You will be assigned an editor from the publishing company. Please follow the publishing company's instructions from submission to publication.
Even if a submitted manuscript is selected by the judging committee, it may not be published if the author is unable to make the necessary revisions during the subsequent editing process, or if it is deemed unsuitable as a book for publication by the publishing company.

In addition to being distributed as a regular book, it will also be gradually converted into an e-book.
