Academic Writing Support (AWS)
Academic Writing Support (AWS) provides assistance to graduate students (including research students) of this university in writing academic papers in Japanese. If you're having trouble writing academic papers, course reports, or other documents, please come to AWS!
Let's improve your writing to make it easier to understand by working together with a professional graduate student tutor and revising it in dialogue with them.
1. Support reception period
Support period for the Spring Semester of 2026:
Tuesdays and Thursdays from April 14, 2026 to July 23, 2026 (some exceptions apply)

2. Support location (select one)
[In-person] Booth inside the Global Lounge, 2nd floor, Shinsokan Main Building, Shinjuku Campus (Change from FY2026)
[Online] Online using the Zoom system
*Walk-ins are welcome, but please make a reservation whenever possible. (Reservations take priority)
How to make a reservation
You can make a reservation online using the following web reservation system.
Once you make a reservation, you will receive a "Reservation Confirmation Email" from aws[at]s.obirin.ac.jp at the email address you provided.
Please be sure to cancel your reservation yourself through the reservation system.
As a general rule, please limit your bookings to one session per day and a maximum of two sessions per week.
When making a reservation, please also complete the pre-reservation questionnaire form (face sheet) linked on the reservation screen each time.
4. How to participate on the day

1. What you can do with AWS
At AWS, you can consult about anything related to your academic writing in Japanese.
We can also provide support from the brainstorming and conceptualization stages, even before you start writing.
2. If you fail to follow the reservation or cancellation rules more than twice.
AWS will be unavailable for that semester.
Things you can't do on AWS
For consultations requiring advanced academic expertise, such as those concerning the content of your thesis, please consult your academic advisor.
Tutors cannot participate as subjects in academic research or experiments.
AWS does not provide support for simple document editing, foreign language translation, or assistance for monetary gain (e.g., translation work requested by the client).
Prohibition of disruptive behavior
AWS is a peer support system built on trust between tutors and those seeking advice (graduate students).
If we determine that disruptive behavior has occurred, we may suspend or ban your use of AWS.
