J. F. Oberlin University’s Chancellor Toyoshi Satow was formally invested as the new president of the International Association of University Presidents on Saturday, June 14, the final day of the IAUP’s 17th triennial conference, held at Pacifico Yokohama. He will serve in that position until 2017.

Some 500 people took part in the conference, representing institutions of higher education in 40 countries and areas around the world. The theme of the meeting was “Creating the Future of Higher Education.” In prepared remarks after his investiture, Chancellor Satow stressed to them the importance of strengthening higher education and mobility among institutions as well as improving access to higher education and providing support to “students and educators in regions where education and research are poorly developed owing to social disorder.”
