I want to grow even more through volleyball, which I love.
I started playing volleyball on a club team in first grade and have been dedicated to the sport ever since. While I participated in the national tournament in my first and second years of high school, I also experienced frustration by missing out on national tournaments in our generation.
I wanted to continue playing volleyball at university, so I considered where to go on to school. Among visiting several universities, J. F. Oberlin University was especially striking, with the team's bright atmosphere. Even during basic practice, teammates encouraged each other and approached practice with a positive attitude. This matched my desire to "enjoy volleyball while growing myself," and decided to enroll in J. F. Oberlin University.
The spring league allowed us to truly appreciate the depth of our roster.
Recognizing my experience playing in matches since my freshman year of university, I will serve as team captain starting in the 2025 academic year. I had never been a captain before and often felt confused, but I am able to lead the team with the help of reliable peers.
What I am especially focused on is creating an environment where each member can focus on their play. When I first enrolled, my play fluctuated between good and bad, and I sometimes felt down alone. Because of that, I always tell the underclassmen, "It's okay to make mistakes. Let's play boldly." No one can make mistakes zero. We aim to be a team where everyone can cover for mistakes together.
In the recent spring league, we achieved our best-ever result of finishing 5th.
I felt the team's growth in a match where a key player was forced to leave due to injury. Anxiety crossed my mind, but the player who substituted played their role well and was able to win the full set. I was convinced that the team's player pool had grown and the level of the J. F. Oberlin University women's volleyball team had risen.
The entire team will work together to achieve the result of "winning the championship."
The spring league was certainly a good result, but to be honest, I also feel frustrated that I could have done more. To achieve the goal of winning the autumn league, I want to work on strengthening my spike punching power and floor defense.
Rather than just chasing results, I want to value the uniqueness of J. F. Oberlin University as well. I want to increase my relationships with teammates and create an atmosphere where everyone can feel, "Let's do our best in club activities today!"
The top teams in the league are strong contenders, and they are not opponents you can easily beat. Still, I believe that if each individual can demonstrate their abilities and play volleyball full of individuality, it will lead to good results. I want to show growth both on and off the court so that everyone will want to support them even more.
He contributed to the team's defense and led them to victory in the autumn league.
