Girls' Volleyball Club

University volleyball is comprised of student federations in nine regions across Japan (Hokkaido, Tohoku, Hokushinetsu, Kanto, Tokai, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu), and each region is divided into "clubs" which are categories based on skill level.

The Kanto University Volleyball Federation Women's Division consists of nine divisions, and our university's women's volleyball team belongs to the first division.

The club's goal is the All Japan University Volleyball Championship (Intercollegiate Championship), which is held every December to determine the best university volleyball team in Japan. Participating schools are determined by scoring points based on their rankings in the spring and autumn league matches, as well as the East and West Intercollegiate Championships, and then ranking based on the total points accumulated.

In the 2021 season, we won the second division autumn league, achieving our long-awaited return to the first division league for the first time since the spring of 2019, and also participated in the All Japan University Volleyball Championship (Intercollegiate Championship).
In the 2025 Spring League, they achieved their highest-ever ranking, finishing 5th in Division 1. Their goal is to become "the best student team in Japan."

Kanto University Volleyball Federation

Volleyball is a very easy-to-understand sport: you win by getting the ball into the opponent's court within three touches.

To help beginners enjoy volleyball more, let's learn about the three positions.

The key players in a rugby team are the "attackers," who are crucial to the offense; the "setters," who prepare the ball for more effective attacks by setting up easy-to-hit tosses; and the "libero," who defends the court from the opponent's attacks and connects the ball to the setter.

To enjoy the game more deeply, it's a good idea to try to remember the plays that each player in your favorite team excels at, the so-called "winning patterns." If you vaguely remember patterns like "when a player is in this position" and "when they hit the ball at this timing," you'll find yourself cheering more enthusiastically as you watch the game, thinking, "That's it!"

One of the appeals of women's volleyball is that the rallies are longer than those of men's volleyball. The thrilling action, where the ball seems to drop on the court only to be brilliantly picked up and returned, is a major highlight. Obirin Volleyball's strengths lie in its ability to utilize its height to accurately target areas that opponents dislike, even over blocks, and its diverse combinations. Recently, they have also begun working on strengthening their back attacks.

In order to compete in the highly competitive first division league, we are working to refine our combinations to confuse our opponents and avoid monotonous attacks, and we are also working to strengthen our attacks using back attacks.

Beyond their high level of skill, the team's appeal also lies in their passionate hearts. They have never lost to any other school in terms of "encouraging" each other to take control of the game and their "spirit" that never gives up even when they are at a disadvantage.

"When you touch the ball, you pass it with consideration for the 'next person.' Other players prepare to follow up, making it a sport that 'connects people, hearts to hearts.'"
The team's goal is to win the spring and autumn league championships, and ultimately become the best in Japan by winning the Intercollegiate Championship.
