Cheerleading Club

01: Obirin's position

A traditional team with experience on the world stage.

We are affiliated with the Japan Cheerleading Association.

Since its founding in 1989 with the purpose of supporting the American football team, the club has achieved outstanding results in numerous competitions. It has won championships in the Kanto Tournament, the All Japan Championship, and the All Japan Intercollegiate Championship, and has also represented Japan in overseas competitions.

At the 2025 Japan Cup, they placed 11th in the freestyle competition and 4th in the small groups competition.

02: Rules

Cheerleading is an "expressive sport" that competes on "how well you can captivate and attract the audience."

Taking advantage of its origins as a cheering activity, the group uses cheerleading-specific techniques such as cheer sidelines, arm motions, special jumps, and acrobatic techniques like partner stunts and pyramids to create performances that express energy, fun, and beauty.

Cheerleading routines are composed of four elements: stunts, tumbling, jumps, and dance. In particular, stunts, which involve lifting or jumping people like in a human pyramid, are the highlight of cheerleading performances.

The free routine competition is a judged competition where teams of 8 to 16 people perform a 2.5-minute routine and are judged on the completeness and difficulty of their performance. (The 2022 Kanto regional competition had a 2-minute routine). As it is a performance sport, teams are judged on the completeness of their routine, the difficulty of their techniques, their synchronization, and the ingenuity of their routine composition.

04: Team Highlights & Selling Points

A powerful performance that energizes the audience, and a radiant smile.

Obirin's cheerleading team's motto is "beautiful performance."

While the sport often draws attention for its acrobatic techniques, the athletes approach their performances with meticulous attention to detail, paying close attention to subtle expressions, from their hands and feet to their facial expressions.

Another characteristic is the "open and communicative atmosphere" that allows students to naturally communicate across team and grade levels.

This year too, the Obirin cheerleaders will inject energy into everyone who watches them with their refreshing smiles and energetic performances.
