She loves to dance and spends her days dedicated to cheerleading.
I started cheerleading at a local club team when I was five years old. I've loved physical activity since I was little, and I used to dance along with my sister, imitating what we saw on TV. I continued cheerleading with that club team, enjoying it until junior high school.
In high school, I changed my environment and joined the cheerleading club of a prestigious school. In an environment where the students took the lead in practice, I served as the club president, leading the team while enduring rigorous training.
I was determined to give my all to cheerleading in high school and went into my final competition with that goal in mind, but unfortunately, someone on the team got injured right before the competition, and I wasn't able to perform to my satisfaction.
I want to be the starting point for building trust.
To overcome the frustration of "not fully burning" in high school, I decided to continue cheerleading at university. I enrolled in J. F. Oberlin University because I was drawn to the team's stance of "having fun while aiming for the top as a team." When it's time to do something, we focus; when it's time to have fun, we give it our all. In such a well-balanced environment, we strive to improve together with our peers.
I changed from being the "club president" in high school to being a "first-year" at university. I'm still working hard to keep up with the performances of my seniors, but rather than being passive just because I'm a junior, I strive to find what I can do and contribute to the team as a spot that oversees the whole team.
In stunts that involve carrying people, the spot is an important command center that protects the members' safety. In cheerleaders, if one person steps back, the overall quality of the performance and safety also suffer rapidly. Of course, I want to be a starting point of trust where everyone moves forward, not only improving individual skills but also not forgetting to be considerate of those around them.
I will improve my tumbling accuracy and contribute to the team at the JAPAN CUP.
Having passed the Kanto regional tournament, I've qualified for this summer's JAPAN CUP. As a member of the A team, I'm working on improving the precision of my tumbling, an acrobatic floor exercise technique, so that I can fully demonstrate my abilities in the actual competition. Tumbling isn't something everyone performs; it's an individual skill that's showcased within the flow of the routine. The more I refine it, the more it contributes to my own growth, and it's also a skill that can definitely be used to score points for the team.
My university life has just begun. I'm still exploring my future dreams, but I want to become someone who can spread kindness and compassion. Cheerleading can give energy, courage, and smiles to those who watch it. I will never forget my initial passion for dancing and will give my all for the next four years.
The key to growth: a sense of ownership and compassion (from the editorial department)
What struck me during my interview with Nishiyama was his strong passion for cheerleading. Having served as a club leader in high school, he has a strong sense of ownership and is committed to practicing to do what he can.
Amidst all this, what makes Nishiyama remarkable is her strong sense of balance, never being self-centered, and able to see the whole team. I felt that the word 'compassion' she cherishes truly reflects her character.
Cheerleading is not complete alone. It is about the whole team working together and creating together. J. F. Oberlin University The cheerleading club will surely unfold the culmination of Mr. Nishiyama's work.
Build trust through your actions and words.
