American Football Team Captain: Yuji Inoue

With the determination of a captain, I aim to be promoted to the Top 8.

On the day I experienced American football, I decided to attend J. F. Oberlin University

I was fully committed to baseball until the summer vacation of my third year of high school. After the final tournament ended, just as I was about to decide on my future path, a member of the J. F. Oberlin University football club came to my high school. I vaguely thought about continuing baseball, but was invited to try playing American football at university. When I actually went to the J. F. Oberlin University field and started practicing, I immediately felt the appeal of American football. On the day I observed practice, I was determined to enter J. F. Oberlin University and play American football.

I have no choice but to become captain.

J. F. Oberlin University About 30% of the American football club members start in university like me. In the first year, we focus on physical development, and from the second year, we gradually participate in practice with the mindset of practical experience. I was a second-year student and gradually started playing in matches as a member of the offensive line.

I was appointed captain this year, but deep down, I felt I had no choice but to be captain. By becoming captain, my actions are visible to the club members more than ever before. I am aware that every move I make has a significant impact on the team, and I feel the weight of responsibility.

As a leader, what I focus on is taking initiative myself. The offensive line is one of the five players, and if any one is missing, communication during games is essential. How can we protect the quarterback? We always act with the intention of leading the team, such as discussing what each person should do and playing in a way that energizes the team.

I'll start over from the basics and aim for the top.

Our goal this year is to return to the "TOP8" division of the league. Last year we were relegated from the "TOP8" to the "BIG8," so we are working hard as a team in practice to do everything we can to get promoted again.

When the new team was formed, I called on the players to "train their physical strength and fundamentals once again." We thoroughly focused on weight and speed training to improve the precision of hits and tackles, which are the foundation of American football. The American football team members were already close, but I imposed a steady accumulation of basic training, and I wanted them to maintain a sense of strictness and tension on a daily basis. Results don't come overnight, but I was happy that everyone worked so hard to keep up.

The American football team's current slogan is "Determination." It signifies our determination for football and our resolve to step onto the field. During the games, we hope you will pay close attention to the intense play of each and every player who has made this determination. We appreciate your support.

I want to get promoted to the TOP 8 and then go on to become the best in Japan.
