Peking Opera performance held in Hashimoto

On Friday, October 26 at Mori no Hall Hashimoto, a performance was staged by the Shanghai Theatre Academy. More than 500 people came to see the performance by one of the most renowned schools for Peking Opera.

Highlights included appearances by Li Peihong, the dean of the Shanghai Theatre Academy’s College of Traditional Chinese Opera, in the pieces known as “Separation of the Newly-married” and “The Dream of a Girl,” and by Professor Yuan Yingming of J. F. Oberlin University’s College of Performing and Visual Arts, in a section of “Farewell, My Concubine.”

The performance was organized by the headquarters of the Confucius Institute to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the signing of the Japan-China Treaty of Peace and Friendship. Similar performances will be held in Osaka, Kyoto and Oita Prefecture.
