“Ethnic Culture Day” to be celebrated on December 12

The College of Arts and Sciences’ Mongolia Study Society and its Cultural Anthropology Program, together with the Student Society for Anthropology, will sponsor “Ethnic Culture Day” on Friday, December 12.

It will consist of three parts: first, from 12:10 to 12:45 in Keyaki no Hiroba, there will be a performance of Mongolian music on such instruments as the morin khuur, featuring khöömii, or “throat-singing.” Part 2, from 13:00 to 14:20 in room A308 (Meimeikan), will include presentations by members of the Mongolia Study Society and participants in the university’s Mongolia Study Tour. Finally, also in A308, Part 3 will feature a discussion between Professor Hirofumi Katayama of J. F. Oberlin University and Professor Mitsuho Ikeda of Osaka University. The topic of their discussion will be “Mongolia from a Liberal Arts Perspective,” and it will run from 14:30 to 16:00.

Everybody is welcome to attend any or all parts of the program.
